Sermon on the Mount, Pt. 3

Our speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dales Schreiber. He concludes his messages on The Beatitudes. Matthew 5, verse three, can be considered the beginning --- the kingdom of heaven. Verses 10-11 is the end,  when a Believer is at the wall, ready and willing to die for  God. Verses 13-16 is about Believers being salt and light to the world.

Our speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber.  Today's message was an introduction to Matthew 5:1-16. The Sermon on the Mount is the closest thing to a Christian Manifesto. If put into practice, it would create Christians who are truly counter culture --- salt and light to the world!

2 Timothy 4

Our speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber. He and his wife, Mary, are pictured.  His message was based on 2 Timothy 4:

  1: I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4: And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5: But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
6: For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
7: I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
8: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
9: Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:
10: For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.
11: Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.

13: The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.

16: At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.
17: Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
18: And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The need to preach the Gospel is emphasized in this chapter.  People have turned to lies and fables, so persistent preaching with all longsuffering and doctrine(truth) is needed. 2 Timothy 3

Our speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber. His message was based on 2 Timothy 3:

¹This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.²For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, ⁴Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. ⁶For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ⁷Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. ⁸Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their's also was. ¹⁰But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, ¹¹Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. ¹²Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. ¹³But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. ¹⁴But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; ¹⁵And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

The theme of chapter 3 is living-out the Gospel. Just before the second coming of Jesus, times will be perilous and dangerous. The world may be aptly described as allergic to God, and addicted to evil. Part 1, verses 1 through 9, focuses on man's way, and the characteristics of the non-Christian during the last days.  Part 2, verses 10 to 17, focuses on God's way, the way of godliness; and the needed characteristics of God's people as the world gets more evil.

2 Timothy 2

Our Speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber. He encourages us to read the book of 2 Timothy throughout the week in order to be prepared  for the message this Sunday. His message this week was based on 2 Timothy 2: 1-13: 

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

The general theme of chapter 2 is the Believer's suffering for Jesus Christ: it is to be expected; and is often used by God to spread the Good News all over the world. Take note that the Apostle Paul is specific as to whom he serves: Jesus Christ; of the seed of David; who was raised from the dead (verse 8).  It is this Jesus who is preached and is worthy of the suffering and even of the death of the Believer.

The Good Samaritan

  Our speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber.  Mr Schreiber's message was based on Luke 10: 25-37, the Parable of the Good Samaritan.  The beaten man was an image of you and me in our sin and helplessness; the Samaritan is a type of the Lord Jesus Christ, who was compassionate towards us by His great sacrifice on our  behalf:

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

He said unto him, what is written in the law?  how readest thou?

And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all they strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.  

And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right:  this do, and thou shalt live.

But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? 

And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

And by chance there came down a certain priest that way:  and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was:  and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

And he said, He that shewed mercy on him.  Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Our Speaker during Family Bible Hour was Dr. Dale Schreiber.   He continued his series on the Blessings of Salvation.  One of the blessings received by a person who is saved through the finished work on the cross by the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth  is the sealing of the Holy Spirit.  The use of a seal during N.T. times  indicate ownership, underlies the importance of what was sealed, identifies the owner, and guarantees the security of the item sealed.  The same blessings are bestowed by the Holy Spirit on all believers as a testimony to the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ.  For more on this excellent message, see the DVD. Check with Romy if you're interested.

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.  ~ Ephesians 4:30

Our Speaker during Family Bible Hour was Dr Dale Schreiber, missionary to Muslims.  He and his wife, Mary, are pictured below.

His message was the 2nd part of his series: The Blessings of Salvation. A quick summary of the 1st part of his series can be found  here.  One of the blessings of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord, is regeneration. Dale referred to the two times the word "regeneration" is used in the Bible:  Matthew 19: 27-28; and Titus 3: 3-8

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration , and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works,.  These things are good and profitable unto men.

The Blessings of Salvation

Our Speaker during Family Bible Hour was Mr Dale Schreiber, Missionary to Muslims. The title of his message was "The Blessings of Salvation"; and the text used was Ephesians 1: 1-14

Paul, an apostle of Jesu Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus:  Grace be to you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ...

What are the blessings of salvation in Jesus Christ? Here is a quick re-cap:
I.  Our election in Christ; we were chosen by God

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love....  verse 4

II.  Our adoption into God's family; we are the children of God

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will... verse 5

III.  Our redemption in Christ; we've been set free from the bondage of sin

In whom we have redemption  through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace... verse 7

IV.  Our inheritance in Christ; we have a spiritual inheritance with its benefits through Christ; and, God inherited US.

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will... verse 11
